Lions get huge win against 1st Place Ontario
Having tied Ontario in the season opener at home and then losing 0-2 away the Lions were eager to prove themselves in the third match up. The teams seemed evenly matched with both having early chances in a very fast paced game. The Lions struck first in the 19th minute as Aaron Milby placed a perfect pass in front of a streaking Stephen Sweet who scored from about 12 yards out on the left side of the goal. It was just three minutes later that Sweet found Michael Thornton in front of the goal for the Lions’ second. Ontario came back strong and pressured the FCS defense which held strong throughout the remainder of the game. Strong performances from Dustin Collister, Tyler Leech and Matthew Berezowski in the back, along with David Mitzners diving stops insured the victory. Coach Galipault also cited Jake Spyer and Reese Abbott for inspired play.
LIONS DOMINATE ON THE Road
We dominated from the opening whistle, scoring in the third minute of play as Stephen Sweet threaded a through pass to Michael Thornton sending him in on goal alone for an easy score. Nine minutes later it was Michael assisting Stephen in his first of three goals. Lion defenders Taylor Rawley and Kai Barboza were key in keeping the Crusaders in check but Valley came back at the midway point of the first half with a free kick that just got through the hands of David Mitzner. It was all Lions from then on. Sweet added two goals in the second half and assisted on the third, sending a cross from the left side that found Matt Dampier open on the far post where he connected with a perfect volley into the back of the net. Mitzner (first half) and Luke Werschmidt (second half) each had a few good stops in goal. Also key in the match was the controlling midfield play of Josh Kent and Cade Gray.

Lions Tie Ontario Knights 1-1
Last Thursday, our Varsity Soccer team went up against the Ontario Knights. Both teams fought hard and it ended up with a tie 1-1. Michael Thornton ran down a ball misplayed by the Ontario goalkeeper for the team's only score in the 18th minute. Ontario answered quickly with a goal of their own in the 23rd minute. Both teams had plenty of chances. FCS Goalie David Mitzner had a few key saves, and the Ontario goalkeeper had some crucial saves as well from the shots of Matthew Dampier, Stephen Sweet, and Aaron Milby. The Lions are confident that they can come away with a victory the next time they play the Knights this week!

"I am happy with the way we have come together in our first weeks of training. We worked well together as a team today and I think we are ready for our first game on Thursday against Ontario.
We have a lot of fire power up front led by last year’s high scorer Aaron Milby. On defense we are getting better every practice and I’m confident that we will be competitive this season."
