Lions crush Pasadena in Playoffs

This week the Lions played a playoff game against Pasadena. The winner of this game would advance to the finals. Alex Lane who has been solid for the team all year long had yet another great game. He scored two rushing touchdowns and also threw two touchdowns. Kevin Estes, had an influential part in the game on offense. He scored two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving. Deshawn Craig also chipped in by scoring a touchdown. QB Grant Gast put the finishing touch on Pasadena with another rushing TD. On the defensive end, Alex Lane and Dalton Sloniger both got interceptions. The final score was 42-0. Winning the game with a staggering amount of points, the Lions go to the CHAMPIONSHIP! Come support them on Saturday at Valley.

This week our varsity football team played their rivals Heights Christian. QB Alex Lane had yet another impactful performance, running for 3 touchdowns. Alex also completed a touchdown pass to Dalton Sloniger. Defensive Lineman, Jacob Albertini, showed his agility by getting a pick six off a pitch from the Heights quarterback . Deshawn Craig had another great game on the defensive end getting an interception. The game ended at an amazing score of 31-6. Our team finished the season with a 7-0 record. Next Tuesday will be the first playoff game for the football team at the lions den. Come root them on!

Coming into the game both Friends Christian and Whittier Christian were both undefeated, meaning only one team could leave the game with their unbroken record. With the final score of 48 to 6, Friends Christian maintains their title of undefeated and first place in league. Alex Lane had quite the game. He completed a total of two touchdown passes to Noah Sanchez and Dalton Sloniger,and also had two TD runs,and two interceptions, with one leading to a TD. Cameron York led the team with his defense by intercepting three passes on defense, one of which lead to a touchdown. York also had a touchdown from a punt return. By halftime Friends Christian Lion's varsity football team was dominating Whittier Christian by 36-0. The Lions remain undefeated heading into the last league game of the year. The Lions seem to be favorites to win the championship this year.
JV lions Finish Season Strong against KNights

Last Tuesday, our JV team had their final game against the Ontario Knights. In the first matchup between these two teams, the Lions won big 32-0. The Lions played a perfect first half with a score of 29-0. QB Josh Kent threw two TD passes to Carson Contreras. QB Luke Makshanoff delivered a strike to Cole Rosner for yet another score. Rosner also had a fantastic rushing TD. The Lions defense was again dominant. The Lions defense has been a key to their success this season. Gabe Huante again led the Lions defense with another interception. Also, getting an interception was RJ Vanderhook. The game ended with a final score of 29-6. Great job this season JV team, well done!

Lions Varsity Football traveled to Valley Christian and came up with a victory with a score of 36-0. Alex Lane majestically ran for a rushing TD and threw two TD's to Kevin Estes and Deshawn Craig. Grant Gast also threw a beautiful ball to Dalton Sloniger for another score. Fantastic Troy also rushed for a 17 yard TD. But the the defense is what won the game for our Lions Varsity Football team, with an interception by Nate Mueller (2 games straight with an INT) and only 2 first down conversions. Lions Stephen Sweet says the "NO FLY ZONE", isn't a force to be reckoned with.
JV Lions perfect against Valley

The JV Lions took on the Valley Christian Crusaders last Tuesday. In the prior meeting between the two teams, the Lions took the victory 18-0. The JV team has been working hard and their practice payed off defeating Valley 40-0 the second time around. The Lions offense scored early and often. QB Luke Makshanoff played a solid game throwing a beautiful TD pass to Gabe Huante. QB Josh Kent also made his mark throwing TD passes to Carson Contreras and Matt Dampier. In addition to his touchdown passes, Josh Kent also had an epic TD run for 60 yards. Jalen Gooch finished off the game with a TD run. The Lions put up a whopping 40 points but their defense was just as impressive. The Lions earned their 3rd consecutive shutout. Cory Derosa and Seth Holbrook came up with big interceptions. The MVP of the game was clearly Gabe Huante with 3 interceptions and 2 touchdowns. Coach Lewis said "that was one of the greatest performances that I've seen from one of my players."
Lions dominant against san gabriel bulldogs
The Varsity team took on the San Gabriel Bulldogs on Tuesday. With a win the Lions would maintain first place in league. Friends Christian's linebacker Cameron York started off the game by getting a pick-six on the first play of the game. In the first 14 seconds of the game our defense had made two interceptions including Cameron York's and Dalton Sloniger's interceptions. Within the first quarter of the game, our varsity football team had scored 25 points against San Gabriel. QB Grant Gast had an incredible game throwing two touchdowns passes one to Alex Lane and one to Troy Cochrane. The 2nd quarter highlights include a touchdown run by QB Grant Gast , an extra point by Caleb Zubas and a beautiful interception by Nate Mueller. Later in the game, Garrett Mitchison and Matthew Berezowski both had rushing TD's. The game ended with a final score of 44-0. The Lions continue their win streak now at 6 games.

The FCS Lions added yet another impressive victory under their belts. With a total score of 40 points to 0, the team was very successful offensively and defensively. QB Alex Lane has yet another strong performance rushing for one TD and throwing two touchdowns to Deshawn Craig. Grant Gast had a great game as well throwing touchdowns to Cameron York and Nate Mueller. The most exciting play of the game came when OL Garrett Mitchison took the snap as a QB. Mitchison dazzled the crowd with his agility rushing in for a score. The Lion earned another shutout only giving up 3 first downs.

This week on Tuesday our Varsity football team played an away game vs. Ontario. The Lions came out with a strong start going up 26-0 at half. The Lions continued their strong play finishing the game with a score of 33-6. QB Alex Lane threw a touchdown to Deshawn Craig and also ran the ball for a touchdown. Deshawn Craig also scored a rushing TD. QB Grant Gast threw two touchdowns to Troy Cochrane and Cameron York. York also played well on the defensive end by getting an interception. The Varsity football team now has a 5-0 record and have plans to go undefeated the whole season.

Having traveled a long ways, lions varsity football prepared for a tough competition. Pasadena put up no points against the lions the lions. Alex Lane had two rushing touchdowns as well as one passing touchdown to DeShawn Craig, Troy Cochran and Kevin Estes scored two touchdowns thrown by Grant Gast. As said by Bear Bryant," Offense wins games, defense wins championships." Lions defense showed up big with the shutout and total yards in the negatives. Stephen Sweet and Luke Werchmidt came up with a safety. The final score was 32 to 0.
JV Lions take care of business against Valley crusaders

The JV Lions football team once again came out victorious against Valley 18-0. The JV team is currently on a roll winning both of their games last week. The key to the Lions victory was definitely their defense. This is the second straight game that the JV team hasn't allowed points, two shutouts in a row! The shutdown defense of the Lions was led by Seth Holbrook, Jalen Gooch, and Carson Contreras all getting important interceptions. Luke Makshanoff had a huge game with a 20 yard TD run and also a TD pass to Gabe Huante. QB Josh Kent also chipped in by throwing a touchdown pass to Carson Contreras. This team has some major momentum and are looking to finishing out the season strong in a few weeks!

Last Friday our varsity football team had their first league game vs. West Covina. Our varsity team was on their A game as we romped West Covina 30-6. The Lions once again dominated offensively with plenty of touchdowns. QB Alex Lane had 1 TD pass to Deshawn Craig and one TD run. QB Grant Gast had one TD pass to Noah Sanchez. Finally Troy Cochrane rushed in for another score. The lions only gave up six points with another strong defensive performance by Stephen Sweet. The lions will continue their season against Pasadena on Thursday.
JV has first dominating performance against ontario

Last Tuesday the JV Football team started off strong in league play smashing Ontario 32-0. This was a great way to bounce back after a tough loss to Vineyard. The Lions were dominant on both sides of the ball. Offensively, both QB's Josh Kent and Luke Makshanoff threw for two touchdowns. Carson Contreras, Cole Rosner, RJ Vanderhook, and Cory Derosa all had TD receptions. Also scoring for the Lions was Jalen Gooch with a beautiful touchdown run. The defense of the Lions was perfect as they recorded their first shutout of the season. There were plenty of great plays on defense including sacks by Cole Rosner, Andrew Nelson, and Josh Smith. Carson Contreras also had an interception giving him two on the year. The JV team is back at it on Thursday as they play Valley Christian.
JV Football puts up a fight against vineyard

The JV Football team had their first game last Friday against Vineyard's Varsity Team. This was a big first test for our JV Team taking on a varsity team. The JV team put up a great fight but came up short losing 28-14. QB Josh Kent threw a TD pass to Cole Rosner bringing the game within reach at halftime 14-8. In the 2nd half the Lions scored with a rushing touchdown by Reece Morgan. On the defensive side, Carson Contreras had a fantastic game getting an interception. This game was great preparation for the JV team as they start league play versus Ontario.

Last week the FCMS lions Football team had a very successful game VS. Salem. The Lions won big with a final score of 40 to 18. Cameron York had a monster performance with a punt return for a touch down and also a 70 yard TD run. The Lions offense scored plenty and often. Quarterback Alex Lane had two runs for large gains including a 50 yard run for a touchdown. The defense of the lions also stepped up in a big way. We had two interceptions, including an interception for a touchdown by Stephen Sweet. This game was great preparation for the first League game against West Covina Friday.
FCS Football looks for 3rd championship in a row

With their first game coming up, the Friends Christian boys football team is preparing for yet another successful season. Last year our Varsity team went undefeated and took home our 2nd league championship in a row. This year the Lions look to do the same as they try to accomplish their 3rd championship in a row. Head coach Carl Cokely says "We have great kids, and great coaches." The team has their first game at home Tuesday the 16th vs. Salem Lutheran, at 3:30. Make sure to come out and root the team on at their first game!
