Lions Go to the championship!
Last week our Varsity and J.V. teams both played Valley Christian and won to continue their trail to the championship. The Varsity team won 50-25 with Kevin, Alex and Troy leading the team. Kevin scored 12 points and got 14 rebounds. Troy scored 11 points, and Alex scored 10 points. With this win the Varsity team has a chance to win the championship against Pasadena. The J.V. team also won 42-22. Caleb and Gabe lead the team to victory. Caleb playing like a "manimal" gaining 18 points and 15 rebounds. Gabe also played an outstanding game with 7 points. The JV team will also move on to the championship and play Pasadena.
Lions Get Big Wins Against Heights
Last week our boys Varsity basketball team battled the Heights Hawks. The Heights Hawks came into the game with a 3-3 record. The Lions looked to finish the regular season with an undefeated league record. The Lions started the game by playing great basketball. They jumped out to a big 27-10 halftime lead. The Lions continued their dominant play in the second half with a final score of 55-28. Leading the Lions was post Noah Sanchez with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Also contributing was Kevin Estes with 10 points and Alex Lane with 8 points. This game brings the regular season to a close for the Varsity Lions. They will head into playoffs with an undefeated 7-0 league record. Their first playoff game will be Thursday against either West Covina or Valley. If the Lions win their first playoff game they will play for the championship on Saturday @ Whittier Christian High School at 3:00.
The JV Lions also looked to keep an undefeated record against the Heights Hawks. The JV Heights team came into the game 5-1 in second place in league. This was a huge matchup for the JV Lions because if they lost they would drop to second place in league. The JV Lions came out strong and played beautiful basketball gaining a 16-4 lead in the 1st quarter. The team continued their successful play against the high pressure defense of the Hawks. The final score of the game was 44-23. Leading the Lions was Caleb Zubas who was busy on the boards grabbing an amazing 20 rebounds and scoring 12 points. This is Zubas' 5th double-double of the season. Blake Helvin lead the team with 14 points including 2 three-pointers. Also, Jadon Morones came up big with 10 points and 7 rebounds. The Lions gain the 1st seed in the playoffs with their undefeated 7-0 league record. The Lions will be matched up against the Valley Christian Crusaders in the first game of the playoffs on Thursday. lIONS tAKE oN cRUSADERS IN pIVOTAL mATCHUP
Last Wednesday, or Varsity Boys basketball team took on the Valley Christian Crusaders. Friends came into the game with an undefeated league record and 1st place in league. Valley came into the game ranked 4th in league. The Varsity boys executed and played with dominance. They came out on top of their game and quickly got out to a huge 30 point lead at halftime. The team continued playing well in the second half and the game ended with a score of 58-9. Leading the charge was the post players of Friends Christian. Kevin Estes and Jacob Albertini both dominated the paint with 12 points each. Also pitching in was post player Noah Sanchez (6 pts, 7 reb) and Timothy Summers (4 pts, 2-2 FT). With this win the Varsity team clinches a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Varsity team just has one more game to go in league play vs. Heights.

With this win the JV Lions take sole possession of first place and league and clinch a playoff home game. Last Tuesday the JV team went to Whittier and defeated them 32-15. Caleb Zubas came up big with 10 points and 10 rebounds. This is his second double double this season. Justin Halverson chipped in by scoring 8 points. The team is now 4-0 in the league.
The Varsity team also had an away game at Whittier and came out victorious. The team played great defense limiting them to only 13 points. The MVP of the game was Kevin Estes with 14 points. Dalton Sloniger chipped in with 9 points. With this win the Lions are propelled into 1st in league with a record of 4-0. Both Teams will play San Gabriel next.

Last week our FCS Lions basketball teams played Ontario. This was the second league game for our teams. Both teams, Varsity and JV, went into the game 1-0. The Varsity team had a dominating performance winning the game 45-29. At halftime the Lions had jumped out to a 28-14 lead. Kevin Estes and Noah Sanchez played an outstanding game. Kevin scored 10 points with a total of 9 rebounds. Noah Sanchez led the team with 17 points and 5 rebounds.
The JV team also played a fantastic game versus Ontario. The Lions jumped out to an early lead and didn't let up. The Lions coasted to a 40-12 victory over the Knights. The standout player for the JV Lions was Caleb Zubas earning a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Brady Luke displayed incredible hustle and lock down defense throughout the game. The Lions next opponent will be West Covina.

Lions gain First League Victory over Pasadena Cougars
Last Thursday and Friday, the Varsity and JV teams took on the Pasadena Cougars in the first league game of the year. The Varsity team had a very strong performance. The Lions were led by Troy Cochrane with 15 points, 7-8 from the free throw line. Also chipping in was Kevin Estes with 10 points, 8 rebounds and Noah Sanchez with 8 points. The Varsity team finished out the game with a 41-18 victory. The JV Lions also got their first league win against the Cougars winning 23-15. The JV Lions demonstrated incredible lock down defense only allowing 15 points. The Lions offense was led by Caleb Zubas scoring 11 points and bringing in 8 rebounds.

Both the varsity and JV basketball teams kicked off their season at the Orange Lutheran Tournament. The varsity team began their season against Red Hill Lutheran. They ended the game victoriously winning the game 52-39. Leading the team with 11 points was Grant Gast. Other major contributors include Jacob Albertini, Dalton Sloniger, and Kevin Estes all had 8 points. With this win the varsity team advanced to the winners side of the bracket. Their next game will match them up against Calvary Chapel Santa Ana.
The JV team faced a very tough opponent in their first game, against St. Marks. St. Marks came out on fire in the first half jumping out to a big lead. Our Lions heated up in the second half playing St. Marks even. The JV team ended up losing the game 42-20. Justin Halverson lead the team with 7 points, and plenty of rebounds. Also, contributing was Blake Helvin with two 3-pointers.
The JV continued the OLU tourney in the second round vs. St. Paul Lutheran. The Lions wanted to redeem themselves after the loss to St. Marks. By halftime, the JV team was up 20-2. The Lions continued to dominate the rest of the game and finished with an outstanding victory 32-16. Leading the charge was Gabe Huante scoring 9 points. Another major contributor to the win was Caleb Zubas playing solid defense and having a great day on offense scoring 7. Justin Halverson was the Lion's best defender getting a multitude of blocked shots and rebounds.
The Varsity Basketball team continued the OLU tourney in the second round vs. Calvary Chapel Santa Ana. With a win the Varsity team would advance to the championship game of the tournament. The Lions overall played very well against Calvary winning the game, 60-45. Leading the charge was Noah Sanchez scoring 13 points. Other major contributors included Dalton Sloniger (9 pts.), Kevin Estes (8 pts.) and Troy Cochrane (8 pts.) This win send the Varsity team to the championship to play Salem Lutheran.
In the final game of their tournament the Friends Christian JV team was matched up against Salem Lutheran for the Consolation Championship. The Lions came out strong in the first half exploiting the Salem defense. In the second half, Salem turned up the pressure which caused a lot of problems for the Lions. This game came down to the wire and the Lions came up a little short losing 30-26. Caleb Zubas led the team in scoring with 10 points, Blake Helvin had 8.
The Varsity Lions team played well all tournament long, well enough to get them to the championship game! The Lions squared off against Salem Lutheran. This was a back and forth game. This was definitely the most exciting game of the season to date. Alex Lane got fouled at the end of regulation and made a free throw to send it to overtime. Salem came out hot in overtime hitting two big 3-pointers. The Lions battled back but came up short in OT 70-65. The standout of the game was Noah Sanchez getting a double-double by scoring 23 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. He was named to the all-tournament team. Another important player was Kevin Estes also recording a double-double by scoring 10 points and pulling in 11 rebounds. The Lions may have the chance to play Salem again in our Christmas Classic on Saturday.
